Misapprehension on Interventions
Most of the family members of addicts are always afraid of one thing. Will the child (or the addicted person) leave the family if they are not provided with enough supplies, be it alcohol or any sort of drug? There are lots of questions asked. Am I being a good parent? Am I encouraging the addict? Now the truth is that most family often fails to understand the thoughts of an addict. Addicts can do anything to get a good dose of what they want. And when they get what they want, they are mostly easy to deal with. They do not realize the pressures it is placing on themselves as well as the family. Mostly, the addicts fail to take good decisions and are not ready for most of the tasks. Let us take an example. What will you do if your son is keeping a pistol pointing towards himself? Will you still tell him that he is an adult and can take his own decisions? Or, will you explain to him the after-effects? This may be an extreme case. But remember that addicts are also killing themselves steadily. A pistol may do the work fast. But may prove to much more expensive and painful in the long run. Every addict has at least one family member suffering because of him/her, be it their parents, siblings, wives or children.
