If it&#8217;s not working out as you planned, you may want to look at your strategy. Green Mountain registered dietitian Robyn Priebe walks us through one of her favorite tips for preparing healthy meals if you are stretched for time: batch cooking and freezing. Batch cooking and freezing is an effective strategy for easy healthy dinners. For instance, making a pot of vegetable soup or vegetable casserole and then freezing individual-size portions ensures you&#8217;ll be stocked with an array of healthy foods that only need to be heated before eating. In addition to vegetables and whole grains, Robyn has suggestions for pre-cooking and freezing other foods you may want to eat frequently, such as legumes, hot cereal or beans. /> Lately I&#8217;ve been getting tons of requests for Chef David Smith&#8217;s Creamy Italian Dressing.  So for all you fans out there, here it is: packed 1/2 c fresh basil packed 1/2 c fresh parsley 1/2 c chopped scallion greens 4 cloves of garlic, peeled 1/4 c honey 1/2 tsp salt 1/8 tsp ground black pepper 1 T Dijon mustard 1 c white balsamic vinegar 3 c canola oil 1/3 c cold water Blend all but the oil and water, until completely liquefied.  While blending, slowly add about 1/3 of the oil until the dressing is emulsified and thick.  Add a few tablespoons of water to thin, then continue to add oil and water, alternating, until all oil is incorporated into the dressing. Refrigerate in a glass jar and use to flavor salads, grains, legumes and meats.  Enjoy! Could I pay you large sums of money to talk to any child the way you talk to yourself?  No! Jan Chozen Bays, M.D. discusses the inner critic and suggests learning to listen for the critic. By changing the ways we talk to ourselves we can feel better, have more energy and add pleasure to our lives. &#8220;The energy of the Inner Critic/Outer Judge can be transformed. This is possible for anyone to do. The transformed energy offer us many gifts: clarity, discernment, determination to change things that are not working optimally, and access to a storehouse of energy and creativity that can be used for good in our lives and in the world . &#8220;~Dr. Bays I believe the first step to changing your critical voice is to notice .  You can&#8217;t do a dang thing about the criticism until you recognize it.  So, when you are feeling stressed, down, or funky, tune in and listen to the what you are saying.  Dr. Bays suggests to listen for its favorite hurtful words: you are TOO ___  you ALWAYS ___ you NEVER ___ You are SO ____ you SHOULD ____ you SHOULDN’T ____ Listening and noticing &#8220;helps to separate from the Inner Critic to ask if what it is saying is something that would be good for a mother to say to a child. Or would it be heard as abusive language?&#8221; And then be ready once you recognize the hurtful words be ready to say: Even though I feel fat, I deeply love and accept myself . You don&#8217;t have to believe these words, you just have to start saying them, again and again to argue with the inner critic. /> Generally people believe puppies and bunnies are cute and snakes and spiders are creepy.  Sunsets are beautiful but  drop-crotch skinny jeans are an abomination.  How is it that visually, some preferences can be so similar for so many people, yet the sense of taste is so varied?  How can one person can list broccoli as their favorite vegetable and another won&#8217;t touch it with a ten-foot pole? At our healthy weight loss spa , I find it&#8217;s interesting to look at our participants&#8217; individual dietary preferences.  I wonder how many aversions to foods stem from a genuine dislike of the flavor or if it&#8217;s other factors.  Texture of food usually plays a big role in creating food aversions.  However, memories tied to foods could also contribute to food aversions. Some individuals, due to genetic differences, can detect certain flavors easier than others and that may shape dietary preferences.  Supertasters tend to have aversions to bitter foods and very high fat foods.  Also, we are also born with dietary preferences based on what our mothers ate during their <a
href="http://www.vitaminshealth.net/topic/pregnancy" class="st_tag internal_tag" rel="tag" title="Posts tagged with pregnancy">pregnancy</a>. Before assuming all aversions to foods are something you are born with, try experimenting with changing the texture of foods to see if that helps you incorporate more foods into your eating patterns.  For example, if the texture of legumes turns you off, puree them into a soup or spin them up in your food processor into a bean dip or spread.  If the last time you had green peas they were canned, and you hated them, try fresh peas out of the garden in a pasta salad. What food have you found you actually like after years of assuming you hated it?  Did your taste preference change as you got older?
