The internet is buzzing these days with talk of fat acceptance. It’s not a well-understood concept from a lot of perspectives, and perhaps one of the least understood is the impact of fat prejudice on the lives of those who society views as less than acceptable. Harriet Brown enlightened a lot of people this week with her essay “ For Obese People, Prejudice in Plain Sight .” It has been a glorious week in Vermont — summer is on its way! The mothers among us all want to be perfect role models for our children. Perfection is impossible but that’s generally a pursuit that plagues most who struggle with eating and weight. This article enlightens us as to some of the other inner struggles of disordered eating moms . Because no matter how we think we can hide our issues, our children see through our masks.
